I got that problem. For me, it's because I don't want to tell people how I am. I say "Good" even though I'm not, and then I don't ask back because I don't want an answer. It's not that I don't care, it's that 'how you doing' doesn't feel like an appropriate way to start a conversation, even though its a social norm.
Then again I do go borderline personality disorder.
I can't say "How are you?"...
