  • You could practice with someone you trust.

Slow it down if you are stumbling. Just because you are reading it slower doesn't necessarily mean that that you will be interpreted as slower. Actually, it has the opposite effect, it sounds more profound and luxurious. When you slow it down, it's easier to use more expression in your voice, which is enjoyable for your audience and you.

If you can't handle even the thought of just one other person hearing you read aloud, then try video recording yourself or even just an audio recording.

Don't stop if you make an error, just keep reading. The more you relax, the less errors you will make.

    • Thank you:)

I often make the mistake of trying to read it faster, which of course makes me stumble and then angry. I write poetry and for the longest time, I would read it fast. I wouldn't take my time with it. It would just be a big rush and maybe a few pauses to catch my breath to try to start over. I guess part of the reasons I speed it up is because I feel like I'm being laughed at, so I try to just be done with it. I've heard my voice on recording and it's ghastly! I sound like a posh bitch. I don't trust many people, so I would be hard to find someone I could read with. I've always been kinda envious of people who could read aloud clear.
