I see everyone as equals, too. I've talked to doms and subs who feel the same way. (I don't know if it matters that all the people I asked were all Female.)
There might be a perceived hatred involved in BDSM activity (since you mentioned being a sub sounds insulting), but the activities with BDSM are enjoyable to many, because there's a rule called "Safe, Sane, and Consensual," which people engaged in these activities follow.
I couldn't explain to you what makes any aspect of BDSM culture appealing to anyone (including myself), but if you don't enjoy any aspect of it, then I suppose I can congratulate you for being more normal than the average person. :-D
