Maybe she doesn't know what she wants or she's toying with your emotions, both of which are reasons to forget about it. Why settle for second place? How would anyone like living like that, knowing that if her first crush was willing, she'd choose him over you?
I'd just leave her, friend. Leave the friendship, and explain to her why, explain that you find it too frustrating and the mixed signals aren't doing you any good and want to try find someone that likes you more than anyone else.
