I can't control my thoughts

My brain is annoying me, and it has been for a long, long time.
The way I think, my brain is always grinding and thinking in the background, even when I block it out. It's like a constant droning sea of thoughts, even when I don't want them. When I focus on them though, it's basically like my brain is thinking through all the possible routes / paths I could take.
I can't fucking stop it, I haven't been able for 13 years of my life and am 25 now.
I don't understand what my brain is up to, and frankly, I'm not sure what to make of it, what to make of this web of racing, always active thoughts.

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • You actually are controlling your thoughts for the most part!
I think we just choose to let our thoughts control us because we are wayyy too lazy to fix it. That's how I am, just lazy. It's natural. Right now I have a horrrrrible song stuck in my head, but I just choose to sit back and let it bother me.

  • I suffer from intrusive thoughts as well. It's actually pretty common and natural. The human brain works in mysterious ways. Try to listen to music or distract yourself. Intrusive thoughts come and go.

    • That's one way to put it, intrusive.
Most people I've talked to usually zone out or pause to think , and they don't ever experience this background noise thinking. It seems I'm one of the few.

  • Yeah, that's completely normal. How do you think other brains work? Only suggestion I can think of, if it's bothering you too much, is to try and take up meditation.
