I can blur my vision at will.

I can blur my vision whenever I want to. I've never heard of anyone that can do this and every time I tell someone, they tell me I'm crazy or that I'm making it up. I mean, I can be literally inches away from something and I can blur my vision to the point where I can barely make anything out.

It's me again people still do not get it, it is not about not focusing on a object it is actually being able to blur your vision totally so that what you see can be compared to wearing glasses with very thick lens, those who really know what i mean are those who can really do it.
Great for avoiding eye contact while looking directly into the eyes of a person.

I totally agree, people here don't seem to get it. I too can do it, it's something i discovered when i was a teenager. The ability is second nature to me, its like moving an arm.Basically for me, this is how i describe the experience: I can feel a slight tension in my eyeballs, and i can control the intensity of the blurring. I find i can do it for short bursts of time, for example a minute or 2mins, but my eyeballs start to hurt the longer i do it, sometimes i even get a slight headache. The more intense the blurring the harder it is to maintain for long periods of time. While my vision is blurred i can look around as per normal, even trying to track objects or read a book, the experience is like i am wearing a very heavy set of glasses.

When i blur my eyes i can't blur my right/left eye only , even when i have the other eye closed, blurring occurs for both eyes simultaneously.

I'm an artist and i often use this ability to help me in my sketches. When i blur my eyes its much easier for me to see the outlines of objects and abstract shapes. And its also very cool for debunking most optical illusions :D

Hi I can do the same, however; I took it farther.

at this point I guess you realize that if you put enough tension your vision can divide in to 2, so what happen if you put more tension?
        {I don't recommend anyone to do it but is friking cool}

after that start feeling normal, but the cool part is that ALL THE COLORS ARE INVERTED. how do I know? I did it when I was a child I freak out and never did it again XD. so the yellow lights the we used at our houses became green and the darkness of the night (no white) became kinda gray. I freak out because I couldn't go to my normal view because that felt normal.

I have strained very much for that, everything becomes more blurry and brightness decreases. It just seems to do what it did before the harder you strain. But I do wonder if there's any particular way it could be used. I've noticed that I can still see up close when I do it but IN VERY GOOD DETAIL such as my fingerprints. (I have astigmatism in both eyes and have to wear glasses so seeing anything so clearly without them is astonishing to me.)

Whenever I watch an object and look anywhere else specially at a yellow or white wall or sky I see the image of that object but it has inverted colors. Blue becomes yellow, red becomes green and vice versa.

That is acctually an optical illusion, you can find those on yhe internet too. It's were you stair at an image that is inverted and then look at a white wall or something and you should be able to see the true colors of the image. I think this works for most people.

Thats fantastically interesting. I also took it a step further ok so I've been able to blur my vision for as long as I can remember once when I was around the age of 10 I put my forehead to a mirror closet door mirror to be exact and crossed my eyes causing the normal blur associated with it then on top of that I intentionally blurred my vision then while un-crossing my eyes slowly and still intentionally bluring my vision something out of this world happened at the exact moment my eyes returned to normal position I got tunnel vision not sure if that's the correct phrase my perception went down a tunnel and I turned my eyes into a microscope and seen amoeba and things of that size didn't put it all together until a couple months later when I used a microscope at school . On a side note I see lots of things most people don't .

Ummm... I don't know what could have possibly happened with your eyes, my only explanation is that maybe those were just eye floaties but I don't even know.

I have been able to blur my vision since I was like five. However, if I try to blur my vision more intensely (past the point when things double) my eyes only start to shake. Hence, I cannot invert colors, but that sounds awesome.

I'm an artist as well, and i am a teenager who just gained this ability. Its more that just focusing on one thing and blurring the rest, its more so being able to blur light in your brain at will and reflect light in an odd way. I has a very good sense of light and heat energy and doing this with my vision helps see exactly how heat energy reflects light waves. I can also hold my hand about a foot above a candle and make it feel like it is about to burn me and have to move my hand. Also, interestingly i can touch flames and the bend around my Ora. Proof that an Ora is real: i use a lighter on my skin to try to burn me (somehow knowing it wouldn't) and the flame reflects away from my skin and sounds as if i was lighting a candle... I believe the ability to blur your vision has to do with having a large Ora because of a higher level of spirituality and thus a great ability to reflect energy (or light).

I did it in junior high a lot to make maintaining eye contact with my teachers a much simpler task, i noticed that when a teacher would look at one of their students while lecturing or during a presentation, the student would often look away or down, a good teacher will make eye contact with every student at least once during any lesson. I wanted to be seperate from the "look-away" kids so my ability to blur my vision came in handy when it was my turn to have a short staring contests with the teacher for a few moments, i could tell they appreciated my attention and focus (ironic aint it), they would look at me more than the rest of the kids, because i looked back i could tell it was something out of the ordinary for a kid to stare right back at the teacher for as a long as they could it set me apart from everyone that would look away, but oddly enough, i never asked or talked to anyone about it.

I have posted this below as well, but felt that I should copy it into this comment as you're a little far off the mark.

It is very normal. When clenching the tension in the eyes causes the outer layer to bend slightly, making the light skew or smudge. (a good example is getting a thin of plastic and a lamp, look through the plastic head on at the lamp, then bend it different ways, you will notice the light blur in a similar way- in short this is what your eyes do)

Further duress can cause the out of focus colour to change, although it is never usually by much, a good example is a traffic light. Under tension a green light may start to turn blue and a red one to purple.(fortunately the red light doesn't turn green when changing focus, that would be a bit dangerous) Most other lights are white, and with being at the end of the spectrum it will therefore remain the same.

Little damage (if any) can be done from it and in my earlier years I have found it to be a useful tool to stop paying attention when the subject is droll, whilst keeping the impression that you are intent on the point. I have to confirm with you that being able to blur your vision is a muscle in your eye and is not related to any 'aura'

Omg, that's so interesting. I've had this blurring my vision thing for as long as I can remember but for me it feels very relaxing to completely unfocus my eyes for a few seconds. Also, for some reason, I can see rainbows around lights sometimes, weird little blobs floating around (in the morning usually), heat coming off radiators and ever so slightly gas.
I recently had an eye check and he said my eyes were completely healthy. Also, this is not something physical, but I have a sort of ability to look at someone's eyes and tell what's on their mind (maybe it's just intuition).

I can say that it is exactly the same word for word in my case as well.
For people that say anyone can do it, no it can't. If you can't do it naturally you don't understand whats it like. It's not about forcing it, it is like clapping you hands, you can do naturally when ever you want without much effort. If you have that ability. Turning this into some pathetic competition "you are nothing special, you are ignorant" and other nonsense that some of the freaks wrote is histerical.
No one is saying that we are special or what ever. It's just interesting. I have been told that if you work on it, and meditate you can see aura on people when looking in "blur" mode. I could see aura and energy around people when I was a kid. But never liked it so I somehow shut it down . I still can see some things, but I hate it. that stuff always scared me. Not sure if the things I could see before and blur vision are connected, just saying my experience and what clarvoyant people have told me. Hope this helps.

OMFG!!! SOMEONE FINALLY UNDERSTANDS ME!!! I thought that I was crazy and that something was completely wrong with my eyes!! I can see things just fine, but I can "blur" my eyes whenever I want to. It's just like moving my arms and legs: second-nature. People have said that I'm just crossing my eyes but I'm not!! I'm seriously just normally looking at something, and then I can instantly just make it go blurry. I can control how blurry it is. I can make it blurry to the point where there look like there are double, and then go back to just blurry or back to completely normal instantly. I can only do it with things that are like 2 feet or closer though. I learned that I could do this when I was very little. I would get bored in school and picture something and I wouldn't see what was in front of me, and when I came back to reality, things would be blurry and I could blur and unblur it at will. It's a nice way to forget reality and ignore siblings.

It's hard to explain, like moving your ear, but when I do it I can sort of select the intensity allowing me to wear any sort of glasses and see fine, although the vision is usually closer or farther, apparently it also makes my pupils HUGE. like taking up all the iris.

Hey guys! I have been able to do this since I was really young but thought that if I keep doing it my vision will stay like that. I kind of do it sometimes when I want to space out and listen to music or when I am walking around to not get nervous around people in public. I realized a few things about this that most people haven't mentioned yet. I think this is the ciliary muscle flexing which is a muscle that squishes your lens to focus on things that are far or close. When you go to "blur" mode I think it means your ciliary muscles are flexing which squishes your lens and makes it like a ball. If you notice the more you go to blur mode the more detailed things that are close get. I am not sure if everyone else can do this but I was able to do the opposite with this and make my lens long. I know this because I tested my vision through intense nearsighted and farsighted glasses. So I guess its kind of cool that I can use anyone's glasses and read off them as if they were my own. Except the ones that have one lens that's super convexed or concave. I have yet to read anyone that can do it with each eye separately. I realize there's little to no research on this probably because its something that flies over people's head but I totally want to do some research on this in the future. The whole talk on inverted colors, seeing auras, and being able to predict the future are somethings that might actually come with this crazy little ability. I personally don't see the difference in aura colors in people when I look at someone with my blur mode on I just see the outline of their hair color, skin, and clothing colors. Clairvoyance is something that I might actually have to agree with because I am always told that I am always able to tell what someone is like and what they will do with little to no information but one simple glance. Im not sure how this works or how it really affects our perception of the world but I hope to know one day. Lastly, I wanna say thanks to you all for coming out with your stories about having a blur mode. I really felt like I was the only one and that maybe I was going crazy. I also gotta say that I use blur mode when I'm at the gym and I go all out. It worked somewhat like operant conditioning where everytime I go to blur mode I am able to push through my limits like when I do at the gym. Its pretty handy, especially when I open heavy doors or carry really heavy objects I just can't really see things with detail. Anyways I'd like to read what you guys have to say about what I wrote. Have a great day!

I can def relate. Have been doing this since I was a child and thought maybe there was something very special or very wrong with me. Therefore, I never asked anyone else if they could also do this. Tonight, I was telling my boyfriend about this ability and said to myself, let me google it to see if its mentioned and is considered normal. Thank you for finally confirming that there are others like me. Have you ever checked to see if your eyes changed at all when doing this. I've videoed myself as well as asked my my boyfriend to see if my eyes appear to shift or change at all; Eerily, I don't find that there is any difference when I am or am not. I think this is another reason why its hard for others to believe that we are/can do this with no physical indication what so ever. I've decided that at my next optometrist appointment, I will ask him to explain this ability; And have him check for changes under magnification.

I can do it as long as I want, but it gets harder to get back to focus. It's not about focusing on one object like some says in the comments, it's about blurring everything I see, and it's not hard to do it even with something close to my eyes. It doesn't work on some illusions.

      Is it something like this?
I tried explaining it to one of my friends but she just cringed at me lol. I never asked anyone about it ever again. I continued research, though.

I can do it too, to the point of total cross-eyed, I discovered it while looking at a car window and seeing that outside the car was totally blurred, the same as when a camera has a shallow depth of field. After that, I learned to do it at will, not just looking out a car window.

I can blur my whole vision but if I want to I can make everything blurry except the item I want to focus on. I used to think it was normal but we did a survey at the school and 1 out of every 50 students which means only about 18-30 all in all. I still like to think it's normal.. (The survey was on blurring everything except one specific object)

I too have this strange ability, and I found something that could be the reasoning behind it. When your eyes adjust to look at something close to your face, they accomodate (a bunch of muscles contract and stretch in your eyes to perceive light differently). Some people are said to have the ability to control these muscles and contract their eyes at will causing their vision to blur as if they were looking at something up close.

I guess this ability is more common than i thought. As a kid, I always thought it would develop into laser vision like cyclops from x-men. And then as i got older, for a while i thought something was wrong with me because no one knew what I was talking about. I went to an eye doctor to see if i could get answers but he had no clue and sent me out the door. Since no one could relate, I never talked about it.

I will totally agree that its not a result of crossing your eyes, or focusing on something nearby/far. I've stared someone directly in the eyes to see if they could observe any significant changes in my eyes while i transitioned my vision back and forth from blury to clear- They didn't notice a thing. Just like you said, at will, I can turn it on and off whenever I want and can control how intense the blur is(but it feels like i'm straining my eyes if i do it for too long).

Funny STORY* During a visit to the eye doctor, the doctor had me wear some VERY strong prescription lenses, and had me read a seeing eye chart. I couldn't read a thing on the chart with the lenses on, so I decided to blur my vision. The stronger i blurred it, the easier it was to see the chart. I read the chart from top to bottom without hesitation. The doctor couldn't believe it. I have 20/20 vision naturally. I'm sure he probably thought i memorized the chart or something.

Cool abut the eye test. I used to be better than 20/20 vision according to the optician (didn't think that was possible) even though all my family have glasses but now I'm just normal :(
I also find a lot of people comment on my eye colour because sometimes my eyes are green, most times their bright blue and once my eyes were white according to my friend (she said I looked like the guy in teen wolf).

  • ASMR'er

This is normal, dependent on how you do it. If you can force your eyes to focus at a different distance, that is somewhat normal (military's thousand yard stare). Forcing your eyes to blur while still focused at the same distance is abnormal and demonstrates stronger than normal control of your eye muscles. I was able to only find one other person, my optometrist prior to my LASIK operation. She informed me that it is rare, but often coupled with the ability to make your eyes "vibrate".

    Comment Hidden ( show )
      -
    • marcospolos

i used to be able to vibrate my eyes but now they just cross, when i could do it i met a few others that could do it but most people freaked out when i showed them, the only way i could explain it was to cross your eyes and then try to uncross them while keeping them crossed, contradictory but i think that explains the vibration, the muscule is responding to both inputs so it just goes back and forth. i can blur my vision too, if you blur street lights and stuff you can see patterns within the light- it helps if it is dark out, ive tested it when contrasting and same colors and the pattern is consistant in respect to themselves

I can blur my vision as well making my vision go in and out of focus. I have thought long and hard about that and even went to an ophthalmologist who looked at me as if I was crazy.
What if having that capability means that if we master the muscles in our eyes, nobody would ever need glasses because we as humans are actually meant to be able to adjust our eyes ourselves?
I think medical science has come very far, but we still don’t know everything.

Most of my closest friends don't believe me but my pupils can get really big and they think that werid but don't believe otherwise. Thanks for being someone who can do it just like me! Hi guys, I see a lot of people saying it's normal to be able to blur your vision, but when they go into detail they're describing different things than the phenomenon I believe the original poster is referring to. I discovered this ability around the 1st grade and have used it ever since. When I was younger I always thought I had some sort of superpowers because none of my friends seemed to have the same ability. I used to love going on car rides with my mother at night and blurring my vision because the street lights looked so beautiful. In my older years, I've used this talent EXTENSIVELY when interpreting art and recognizing small patterns on different surfaces. It's endowed me with the incredible ability to magnify small things to the extent that they're recognizable (when previously unrecognizable).

I recently became interested in the subject again because I spoke to my gf about this last night and she said: "everyone can do that!" I really doubted that and asked her to describe what she meant. Then she described defocusing her eyes by focusing on a certain point which is different (and possibly truly something everyone can do). She had a hard time understanding (or believing) what I was referring to, which led me to googling this tonight and creating an account here to get answers and share my experience. Here are the main tenets of this ability:

    1. It is an ability you can activate AT WILL
    2. It is an ability you can activate INSTANTLY
    3. It does NOT involve crossing your eyes
    4. It does NOT involve letting your eyes Defocus
    5. If you hold something close to your eyes it will be difficult to activate this ability
    6. If you put on glasses and use this ability you'll basically be able to see through glasses that are way above/below your prescription level (I have 20/20 vision, but I've tried out friends' glasses just to see if this made a different.
    7. If you do it for too long it can almost feel like your eyes are getting tired. There were two or three times when I felt it may have damaged my eyes in "normal" mode. Those times all occurred at night.
    8. You can see perfectly fine after.

My theory is that this evolved in humans to combat far-sightedness and allow humans born far-sighted to be able to see for short periods of time. I think it's basically "eye muscle glasses," or natures answer to needing glasses.

    Hope this helps!

Ok well...... For years now i have been able to do the blurry vision. Wether or not i am using it i can still see auras and other things most people cant. I believe it to be an amazing gift from one of the gods. Wether you believe in one or more it should be counted as a gift in my opinion. I have been able to help alot of people by having this ability. I thank my gods daily for it. The ability to see auras, focus on solving a difficult image or problem, the ability to change your focus from one thing to the next. There are so many things people dont know about these things. Train and develop your abilities because blurry vision is how it starts but it grows to where you can do more things. I can hold blurry vision indefinetly, see auras without blurryness, i can see heat coming of many fifferent things without being blurry, there are aspects to light that you have never seen but can. So many wonderful things can come from this and i plan on finding out exactly what i can and cant do with it.

OK, so I'm gonna clear a few things up here. First of all no, it is not common. To all the people saying it is and kinda making of fun of people for thinking it isn't, you my friend are just using reflexive accommodation. Basically whenever you change from looking at something closer to something far away, your pupil changes size naturally. However, the people on this forum can change the size willingly without moving their eyes. Like I can put my phone right up to my eye and make everything far away clear and the phone blurry, but then I can switch it without moving my eye at all. Basically we just have a very advanced control of our pupil's and eye muscles. If any of you want to see it happen, take a phone camera (if you have one) and place it so it's kinda covering one eye and recording it closely, switch to far focus and then back again without moving your eye and you will see the pupil change sizes. Other people can also see this affect but they will have to move their eye and use reflexive. Also I like the name Eagle vision for this. It makes sense.

I can to the same with both eyes. Me being an artist, this helps a lot. I can also relax my eyes which causes everything to double. I also have the ability to bend my first two toes (my big toe and the one next to it) at will without bending the others, though, its only on my left foot.

It may be a evolutionary genetic left over like that of the appendix or wisdom teeth. There has been documentation of small fishing tribes virtually untouched by modern civilization. These people have the ability to visually compensate for the refraction of light while under water , being able to see just as well as they would on land. Give it a try underwater, see if bluring your vision underwater makes everything clear. I'd really like to know about your results.

ok so reading all these kinda happy kind of annoyed. so there are like three things not just one. The blurring thing, the color change thing, and just crossing your eyes and seeing double. So for me some of the comments are just people crossing there eyes which yes makes things go blurry (for most people) then you see double. I don't mean to discredit anyone, but this isn't as normal as crossing your eyes so I'd like to know what mine is. When I blur my eyes I do it without crossing them or anything. Also there was a person who said they could make things blurry but only for a short period of time then it would hurt. This is still not me, because I've put my blur to the test. I have worn glasses and adjusted to blur to use the glasses. I thought maybe it was just the glasses but I tried contacts, I stole my moms shitty eyesight contacts and wore a pair a day for a week and literally never felt strained or anything. As for the person who had the color change or "inverted color" I used to do that when I was little but if felt uncomfortable not like a strain or difficult just like if i did it for too long it wouldn't change back. Maybe that's my imagination but I'd rather not test the color change anymore. If anyone else has this fun thing of being able to change focus to anyone's glasses please let me know.

So this Blur on command thing has started when I was in 3rd grade(Currently in 8th grade) but during the time our school has this cool idea to vote for president, I believe it was the election and we were only seeing who got more votes in my school(Pretty sure it was election day and it was between Mitt Romney and Barrack Obama) Everyone was lining up to put their letter in a box but then I noticed my vision got all blurry, and I was freaking out for 3 seconds. Then it went back. I was staring at a light for 5 second with this new ability. Then I tap my friend in front of me to ask if he sees what I saw.No of course, but then I realize how much I can mess around with my body... downside is that you get a headache using it. Ive been using it for years so I get used to it and doesn't bothers me that much but the headache still kicks in often. While writing this Ive blurred myself 17 times already

Oh well, I founally found this topic. I'm able to do it too but there are 2 things I havent seen anybody mention...
Once I was looking myself in the mirror, blurred vision preety intense and what happend is; first my face seem very mean (I could only see my mouth and my eyes, both darked out), then my mouth dissapeared and face glowed white very bright but under my left eye there was a creepy dark smudge looking like it pooring out of my eye. It was so creepy that I instantly got to normal sight. I wonder what that was...

2nd thing is, that once I unintentionaly blured my vision while someone was looking at me (he was standing preety close to me) and he asked me what am I doing. He told me he can't see my eyes, and then I tryed several times on him, every time I did he would say that he cant see my eyes... I tryed on other people too but nothing. Weird, isnt it?

I always thought everyone could focus their eyes at will. I can't remember a time when I couldn't do this. Now, I drive with my eyes out of focus. It allows me to see everything in my feild of vision, and be able to snap focus to any abnormal movement. I am a great driver, my record proves it. If you want people to understand what we can do, have them focus on a point across the room. Then hold their finger horizontally above their feild of vision, about 8 or 10 inches away from their face, and lower it to just above the focal point. Tell them to look at their finger, then look at the point across the room, rinse, repeat, rinse repeat... When they can do that without having their finger in front of their face, they will know.

Finally. A whole group of people that can do the same thing I can do. I tried to explain this to people when they look at me like I'm crazy. I've been able to do this since I was about 7 or 8 years old and now I'm 40. I'll tell you one thing, it's helped me out in job interviews, picking up women, and especially at my job now as a tour guide. There's nothing more intimidating than having 45 people are so directly looking into your eyes as you give them loads of information. All I have to do was blow out the crowd and everything is smooth sailing from there. I'm still in search of a breakdown on what exactly I'm doing to understand what's going on. Even if I don't find an answer it's really a cool ability to have.

  • gollyjr

It is very normal. When clenching the tension in the eyes causes the outer layer to bend slightly, making the light skew or smudge.

I've always had this ability, but I found it works best while looking at a light. I can also do this to a higher intensity: I can completely sever my eye to mind connection and simply not register anything I see. I find this quite peaceful as I also don't hear or taste anything as well. I am an advanced math student who went to a school with a very bad math program for six years and paid little to no attention in most classes for the majority of the time, so I think I somehow trained my mind to do this on command. I can think extremely clearly in this state and I've solved many of my life's biggest questions. I've always had this ability, but when I was really young I could see auras and flashing lights that would freak me out as no one else could ever see anything there. I also can force myself into virtual reality simply by closing my eyes and willing myself into a story. I've never met anyone else who could do this and I've never realized other people could do similar things.

Actually, this is not normal. However, it is common. You can unfocus your eyes at will because you are constantly forcing them to stay in focus. This is because of a very common vision problem called "astigmatism". It is caused by the light entering your eye hitting multiple focal points instead of one. As a result, when you are tired, thinking, or not thinking about keeping your eyes in focus, they will drift out of focus into their natural state, which leaves your vision slightly blurred, typically with the image of what you are seeing in each eye shadowing over each other instead of remaining as one clear picture. It gets better and worse as you age, and shows up in childhood. I have astigmatism, and when I was little, I used to sit and let my eyes drift out of focus while looking at my hands to if I could count how many fingers I had now. It is kind of neat, but can become annoying, especially during times of little sleep, where it gets exceptionally hard to leave your eyes focused. The constant strain of forcing your eyes to stay focused, even when you don't notice you are doing it, can also lead to eye strain headaches and trouble reading and driving as you get older. Astigmatism can be easily corrected with glasses or contacts, and is usually more of an annoyance than a sign of anything more severe. It is certainly nice to be able to put your glasses on and not have to worry about your eyes drifting out of focus, though. It makes the eye strain headaches go away too. The next time you have an appointment with your optometrist, ask them about astigmatism and ask if they can check your eyes for it. All they need to do is shine light at different angles to see how it is hitting the back of your eyes. and then they will be able to test how bad it is in each of them (it is almost the same way that they test your vision normally), and give you a prescription to change your current glasses and contacts, or to give you glasses and contacts to use when you need them.

So, in summary, no. Being able to unfocus your eyes at will is not normal. It means that there is a relatively common problem with how your eyes take in light. The next time you see your eye doctor, ask them about it. You will be surprised at the difference that some minor astigmatism correction can make.

It's called accommodation. I found this out when I asked an eye consultant that I work with because I can do it. When I go for eye tests I come back as being slightly short sighted, but on a refraction he did with the lenses I'm actually long sighted but I couldn't see with the lenses I need. I was told this is because my eyes are accommodating so when a lens for long sight is put in front of my eye, it makes it too near therefore blurry, if a lens for short sighted is put in front of my eye it's pushes it back to "normal" and is clearer than without.

    *lenses to my prescription.

Therefore it might be worth visiting an eye doctor or optician as you may need glasses if it becomes a problem to you. Hope this helps

I think "normal"is a relative term. I think "blurring" is normal for me because it relaxes me like nothing else does. I'm really glad I found this site. It took fifty years for me to know that I'm not strange and others have this gift. I've been able to blur my surroundings since forever. But it never occurred to me others can do this as well. When I mentioned this to my doctor as a teen she gave me a weird look, which scared me. From that moment I never dared mention it to anyone since then. For years I stopped doing it but it's so totally relaxing that I started blurring again in my twenties. I can blur my surroundings and when it's quiet and I'm relaxed I see pretty colors flicker and dance. Its so amazing and I feel better knowing there's others and ..... I'm not loco. Thanks everyone.

lol i remember when i was younger i would try to explain to mum that i can ' blur ' things on purpose without even trying or focusing on anything. She thought i was pretty insane haha! So I'm guessing we have good control over some sort of muscle in our eyes?? Not saying we are better than anyone of course so please dont think this is some sort of competition. But ive always been curious and a little confused about my eyes not gonna lie!
thanks for the help everyone!! and its great to talk to people who experience this uhhh....eye situation too!

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • VileOnyx

I think I know what causes it. I've been able to do it since five years old, and everyone I tell says I'm lying. But recently, my friend saw me do it from the side while I was reading. And my eye seemed to very slightly reshape itself. What I think happens is we have a muscle on each side of the eye that contracts and expands at will. I think the eye gets pressed into a more oval-like shape which brings the lens closer or further away. Or at least that's what I think happens. I went to the optometrist a while ago, and he actually put a name to it, sadly I can't remember it.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I realize this was a very long time ago, on the internet at least, but i think its fairly common. I have been able to do it since I was 4. The only reason some people cant do it is because its like winking, or twitching your nose, not everyone knows how. Our eyes are strange, and the way they work is very complex, so some people may have negative reactions because they might feel overwhelmed by what your telling them.

    Comment Hidden ( show )

I can also blur my eyes at will but the thing is I can only blur things that are close not far. when I try to blur my vision from far away I kinda just see two of every thing. I do not have perfect vision and have glasses and when I blur my vision up close its more blurry when I wear my glasses and less blurry when I don't but like I feel like I can actually see better wit them off when I blur my vision.

Sometimes when I blur my vision And look in the mirror I can kinda see my pupil get smaller and get back to normal there is t much change but it their.

I did research and found this.

This is called accommodation. You are constricted and relaxing your ciliary muscle and changing the shape of the crystaline lens and changing the vision. It is usually done to see up close but in your case you can probably reduce your hyperopia and vision until you stop accommodating and vision blurrs. This may be a sign that you need glasses or just that you have great accommodative ability.

nope i started doing it since i was a toddler. now i'm 15, my vision is still 20/20 theres no link from being able to blur my vision, to the need to wear glasses.
It does not have any impact on your vision. you have to try it if you dont wear glasses.
if you wear glasses, it has no use for you, just like you lose an ability

Four months ago suddenly everything I saw was severely blurred and I couldn't make out anything. It stayed that way ever since. But I can "zoom focus" at will. I consulted 4 eye doctors and 4 neurologists and probably did all the tests you could imagine. But they couldn't figure it out.

My eyesight varies from 20/200 to 20/20, and if you don't believe me, they not only asked me if I recognized the letters but also directly examined my eyes while I was reading them and confirmed it. They say I'm not near-sighted, because I don't squint to bring things to focus.

It freaks me out because I wasn't born with it, like many of you here.
