I avoid my best friend because of her baby

I moved out of my hometown a few years and and kept in close contact with my best friend of course. She recently had a baby and now I seem not to call her and I never want to call her back or answer the phone. All she talks about is her baby. The faces he makes, the food he eats.
I don't care! I am sorry, I love her but I could give a crap if her baby is acting like a baby!
And the thing is, I love kids, I love the baby! I'm a nanny. He is my little nephew but I don't care what is going on and it's not what I want to talk about. Boring

Is It Normal?

  • She'll get over it. Stick with her if you like her.

  • I feel this way when my friends get obsessive about new boyfriends. =P

    I'm sure it'll pass.

  • Its a shame to set an otherwise good relationship aside over this. She may seem baby obsessed, but the fact is - that baby is all her life right now and does absorb her in every way.

Is there no way you can find to throw her a lifeline - an adult relationship where you talk about adult things? Could you get her a babysitter & take her to the theatre? Take her shopping for her? And if "baby" comes up, just gently say - we can talk about that later - right now its about you in the adult world again."

    She might really appreciate that.

  • It is a natural human behaviour.
