Well the Kurds have had about twenty years head start on nation building, really since the USA shielded them in the first gulf war with the NO-FLY ZONE
and Iraq's Main problem is the rampant corruption in the Leaders in the government and military, that since the USA left, the officials just pocket and steal as much as they can.
that is why Isis was taking so much territory over night really. The Iraqi army have no support and fled after the genreals left them. Were as the Kurds and Peshmerga (Kurdish Military) are holding the line, especially with aerial support
