  • IMO it would be much better if all these factions could pull together in building a secular state that addressed the needs of all it's citizens. A bunch of small, weak non-secular states are nothing but an open invitation for the extremists to come in and wreak havoc. It is not a good time for a country in The Middle East or Africa to be weak and fractured. I'm damn sick of young Americans having to give their lives to police these countries. Time for the citizens of the existing countries to get together and build a strong, sovereign, secular nation.

    • It is unreasonable to expect the Kurds, Sunnis and Shia to live peacefully with each other. They were pushed together when British diplomats created Iraq by drawing a line in the sand after World War 1.

The Americans need to propose borders for each group to have its own country. Insisting on one country for all three groups is perpetuating war, costly military expenses, and the loss of lives.

      • I am aware of the history of the area, but in these times, to do as you suggest (which isn't necessarily a bad idea, but totally impractical, economically and militarily) would open these places to be over run by the more powerful radical groups like IS, and the resultant huge loss of civilian lives. Unity, as far fetched as it sounds, is IMO, the ONLY way to defeat the militants and protect the populations from extinction. After all, IS isn't even a group seeking a homeland, it is an international cadre whose livelihood is killing and making war. They have no more interest in peace than a condor has in flying to the moon.

    • Well the Kurds have had about twenty years head start on nation building, really since the USA shielded them in the first gulf war with the NO-FLY ZONE

and Iraq's Main problem is the rampant corruption in the Leaders in the government and military, that since the USA left, the officials just pocket and steal as much as they can.

that is why Isis was taking so much territory over night really. The Iraqi army have no support and fled after the genreals left them. Were as the Kurds and Peshmerga (Kurdish Military) are holding the line, especially with aerial support
