He is not a relative, but is somehow related and was close enough to be deemed "Godfather." Thats the issue you seem to think will upset family & that have to face together. Otherwise you are also consenting adults & only 9 years apart, which is fine.
Because this may upset family perhaps the 2 of you need to see each other on your own for awhile just to be sure how you feel. Thats not being secretive. That's being private.
Once you know this is serious and likely long lasting - or matrimonial - then both go to your parents and talk to them about how things are.
There is no point upsetting them over something that may fizzle out in a few months.
And there is nothing perverted about any of this, unless there is something else you have not mentioned.
