          I was teasing about the US practice of calling toilets bathrooms or restrooms when if it's a separate dunny there's no bath or bed in there.

          I've written on here before about particles from the open toilet and asking what people think the lid is for, because very few people shut it before flushing.

            I have never heard an American or anyone, in fact, call an actual toilet a bathroom. Do you not understand that people use the term bathroom or restroom to refer to the room (not the physical toilet) because of manners?

              Then how come they say they're going to the bathroom when they're in a bar or some other place where there is no bathroom, only a toilet? And they're not going to have a rest, so why say restroom?

              It's not about manners, it's about prissiness and affectation and it annoys the shit out of me, people who use expressions like this are stuck in childhood and I wish they'd grow up.

                You call it a restroom because you're supposed to keep your business private. Saying toilet is how we know you're announcing that you are indeed going pee or poop, which would be rude. However, when we say restroom or bathroom, nothing is assumed and nothing should be assumed. It's quite nosy to want someone to tell you what your bathroom business is- toilet is direct and unnecessary for us.
