Barking is addictive to dogs, it releases adrenaline which gets endorphins flowing, this causes feel good joy to the little shits and they will just keep barking... It drives us neighbors insane... I have herd people saying to ignore bad dog behavior, that is crap. You ignore your dog barking it will bark 24/7
A good alternative to the hose, for those who keep their dogs indoors, is an empty pop bottle half filled with stones or pennies. As soon as the dog barks you give a sharp shake of the bottle. The horrible noise scares them and shuts them up. You do it enough times and they just learn not to bark unless there's an actual reason to.
I agree that ignoring your dog barking incessantly is a bad idea. That's a recipe for a life time of loud yapping.
lmao the image of a barking little pom getting blasted away by the hose. poor dog but that is pretty funny. reminded me cat used to get sprayed by the dish sprayer through the kitchen window for trying to catch birds in the backyard (not by me, still funny tho cuz he never knew where the water came from)

Yes I know all about neighbors and annoying barking dogs. I think people just don't understand how loud it is.
As a test one day we measured the db of a very loud 150cc quad bike and 2 little yappy dogs, the dogs db was higher and the sound traveled just as far as the bike. Also in my old house I could not hear my neighbors ride on lawn mower if I was inside with my windows closed but I could clearly hear the dog, even with my tv turned up very loud.
Regardless of db, when something or someone is making noise maliciously or to be annoying, it is going to stand out more than normal stuff.
Well like, a lawn mower noise isn't going to bother as much as some asshole revving his engine just for fun.
Or the sound of birds won't annoy as bad as dogs barking.
Also, a constant noise like a fan, lawn mower, fridge, whatever - those will drown out, but a dogs barking will not.
