I’m afraid to walk in someone else’s path

For a long time I’ve been afraid (I have no clue why) to walk the same path that someone else has just walked. Like if I’m walking behind a friend, I have to step to the right of where they’ve stepped so that I’m not walking in the exact place that they’ve walked, or else I’m afraid that something bad will happen. I get that the fear is completely irrational, but I’m wondering if anybody else has a similar fear.

This actually goes against conventional wisdom. Back in the hunter/gatherer days, people moved much more quietly by stepping in the exact same spots as the person walking in front of them as to not disturb anymore underbrush and leaves so to be as silent as possible.

Unless it's impacting on your life or your relationships with other people, that sounds like a harmless phobia. What happens emotionally if you do walk in someone's path?

Well, if it's affecting your life adversely you need to have some therapy to deal with the anxiety this causes you

I hold my breath when people walk past me, or when I am near them. Others who I've told this seem to think it's weird but come on, some people are stinky as hell and I don't want their dirty particles passing through my airways, better safe than sorry.
