Humans: are you good or bad?

I'm asking this because of another poll someone posted:
Do you consider yourself, as an individual and a member of society, good or bad?

Or a mixture of the two?

Or neither?!

Answer below!

  • If you watch Godzilla backwards, it's a movie about a benevolent lizard who helps to build a city and then moonwalks back into the ocean

  • Used to be the sweet little angel in my family but now I'm turning bad

    • Ooooh exciting. In what way 'bad'?

  • Just human both good and bad.

  • The post this is responding to is 'IIN to believe humans are inherently evil':
    http://isitnormal.com/story/i-believe-humans-inherently-evil-191678/

It's interesting that in this poll people think of themselves as 50/50 good and bad, or mostly good - and yet 80+% of people think it's normal to consider humans "inherently evil" on the other poll.

    Interesting contrast...

  • Depends on who you ask. How you measure good may not be the same as how I measure good.

  • A majority are, unfortunately, not intellegent. That does not mean a majority are bad people. For some reason, people seem to equate a lack of intelligence with a lack of benevolence. That being said, I believe people mostly just exist and are neutral with respect to the overall goodness, or lack thereof, of humanity.

    • So you think most people here are stupid, but are neutral in terms of good/bad?

      • I think most of the people here are not regular posters. Most people here are lurkers and by their nature they are neutral with respect to the measured goodness of IIN users. They simply exist. Given that I have no reason to believe that IIN lurkers are any different from the general population, yes, most people "here" are not intellegent.

That being said, the IIN regulars are a mixed bag. Although cunts do exist here, I do believe IIN regulars tend to be genuine and thoughtful and are therefore a force a good when measuring our collective goodness.

        • And where do you consider yourself, from a moral and intellectual standpoint?

Do you think you are one of the few, clever good people? Or one of the majority you deem unintelligent and neutral?

          • Although I do consider myself above average with regard to my intellectual capacity, I am by no means amongst the intellectual elite. Somewhere between top 25% to 15% if you will.

As for my morality, I am less certain. I do believe I lean toward goodness. Although I do believe in objective moral truths, I am not absolutely certain that moral relativism is not a better model with which to perceive this universe. Because of this, nobody can definitively say what is good or bad. We can only say what we believe, as I have done. I do my best to spread a fascination with the attainment of knowledge. I believe this is good. However, someone from a more judeo-Christian fundamentalist culture could view this as blasphemy. Therefore, I believe I am good, but I am uncertain.

Despite everything, I question your tone and lack of support for it. If you believe in something contradictory to what I have said, make a case and debate it. Don't be so passive.

            • I have no desire to contradict you - this poll is about self-evaluation, how YOU see yourself, not how I or anybody else judges you.

  • If one desires to survive in extreme circumstances, one can be forced to do unspeakable things. These are not things which society can forgive, but personally, neither are they things which one need feel guilty about, if the only other choice was not surviving.
Therefor one could be considered a monster in the eyes of society and yet not feel that that is a fair judgement.

    • True... like example where people had to eat others with the only options being that or starvation.

Also I had a talk with a friend after some zombie movie...I let them know that if we were running I might trip you in order to get away. Moral of the story ...dont run next to me while fleeing from zombies.
