How would you approach a friend who's struggling, but owes you money?

  • Maybe it would depend on the total amount your friend owes you. If it's a lot, like a week's worth of wages (or more), then yes, I think you should approach them about it. If it's less than a day's pay, you might want to consider it lost/donated money.

Asking them about it doesn't mean it has to be a negative situation. You did them a favour when you lent them money, so you shouldn't have to be afraid of offending them by asking when they plan on paying you back.

If it's a large sum of money, then they should feel a bit of shame that they have not already made it clear to you when you can expect YOUR money to be paid back to you. Is it possible that they were under the impression that they didn't have to pay it back?

Your biggest mistake was: waiting until you fell on hard times before you discussed a payment plan with your friend.

What are you going to do if they have no money to give you?
