How will rice fix a cel phone

I have been told that if your cell phone gets wet you should put in rice. I don't see how this will help.
Which one of these options do you think is right?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Buy powdered silica (used to dry flowers) from a craft store. Take the back off the phone before you seal it in your air tight container with the silica.

  • And remove battery

  • The water isn't the problem, it's the residue it leaves behind one it dries, surrounding it with rice in a Tupperware is meant to draw the moisture out so no residue is left behind

      • I just use a Tupperware wasn't a general tip to follow, did sound like it the way I typed it though, but, phones carry an incredible amount of germs from everything you touch during the day so I wouldn't feel comfortable putting it in rice that is still going to be used

        • I didn't think of that aspect, thanks .... well, I've eaten all that rice now and it didn't seem to do me any harm but if I have to do it again I'll put it in a separate container to the one I cook from.
