I had a very similar experience back in college with a foreign exchange student. A year after she went home, I visited her with the intent of proposing to her. Long story short... during the visit, I decided not to propose.
I missed her greatly upon return. While I was still wrestling with my feelings, she went on with her life (and rightfully so), met a guy, became serious, forgot about me... ouch.
Put your mementos in a shoebox and shove it in the back of a closet. They will one day be happy memories. In the meantime, move on with your life. Miss Right is looking and waiting for you.
