Obviously you cannot ask somebody that. They can simply lie, and most people are horrible at judging themselves.
Some of the messiest slobs I know seriously think they are neat, hard working and a great room mate and this includes people who piss in jars and ash on the floor.
The best way to judge if someone is not a slob is to look at what they have. If their living space or their car is a mess, then they will be a mess when they move in. Looking in someone's car is a great example of how clean they are elsewhere.
