How should I plan to change jobs?

  • I would honestly wait until you're set up and fully settled in your new apartment and new job before you get a cat. I completely understand why you're so desperate to get one, as I am a cat lover myself, but you're taking on a big financial responsibility. I know feeding them doesn't need to cost loads but you are agreeing to keeping them safe and healthy, which may involve sudden and unexpected large vet bills. You don't really have the option to just not pay for their medical care. You'd end up having to give the cat away or go into debt if they got sick or injured.

I'm also not sure how great a companion they will be straight away if you're getting work done on your teeth and recovering at home. I've had a fair number of cats and when you first bring them home it is stressful. It can take weeks or months for them to settle in, some of them will shit and piss everywhere because they're confused about the move, some might even be aggressive at first... It goes on and on. I would not want to be guiding them through that transition period when I was recovering from dental work and changing jobs. Fuck that.

Sorry if that sounds really negative. I've gone into Mum mode. But it is probably best to revisit the cat idea once you're more settled.
