  • We have sky tv here in brazil and it's very popular. Among my students, Two and a half men seems very popular, though I don't know why - I don't find it very funny at all. The Simpsons and other cartoons are extremely popular. What is interesting is how different cultures have different senses of humor. Of course, American films because of their large budgets have high status in any country and therefore are probably the most exported form of culture. Music is surprising less sucessful because many people can't understand the lyrics and the rythyms are sometimes unrelated to their culture.

    • Thanks for the brazilians perspective. I think you're the first from south america to comment. You teach kids in the rain forest if i remember right, sounds interesting.

      • What a very good memory you have! I forgot to add that Justin Bieber was very popular over here among the teenage girls although, like all fads, it seems he has disappeared from the limelight here. American rock and country and western aren't very popular here strangely enough - they seem to prefer their own versions. One cultural invasion we do have that I think will never go away is the hamburger and the hotdog. On an amusing note, Mc Donalds is very expensive over here and something that only middle class and above eat whereas over there it's the opposite.
