I live in the UK and I would say that US entertainment, as you call it, is very popular here and easy to access. I guess I agree with what dom180 said in the most part.
I would add that, although American entertainment is very popular here, us Brits tend to complain about the 'Americanisation' of our media, despite us 1) subscribing to it and 2) having -as previously stated- 'British alternatives'.
I know it's a rather sweeping statement, but that's my observation of it.
I don't really like it when Brits complain about "Americanisation" either. 400 years ago, us Brits "Anglicised" America with much more impact than their media is having on us now. If anything they have more right to complain than we do! :)
