I'm pretty sure a small minority of men would react the way you described. Especially in today's society filled with soy boys. Even so, it's still perfectly reasonable to be upset if you were mistaken for the opposite sex. I'm a girl, if I were mistaken for a man I'd be upset, internally.
And, a nickname is completely different from pronouns.
How many trans people really "need" to be called by their desired pronouns
