from my understanding, it is attraction by love/personality & compatibility alone, regardless of gender/sexual attraction... or that sexual attraction is secondary... which i thought was how most people are (at least girls)... but maybe not :?

That sounds like an arrangement not a sexuality. If you do not want to be with them but with them anyways it sounds like an arrangement for either looks or money.
No... If someone does not want to be with that person psychically at all but enjoy the company they are just friends. If someone loves the person they are willing to be with them no-matter what they look like than they are in love with that person.
However what you described sounds like an arrangement since they really don't care for the person in that manner meaning they are friends. You could be just friends with someone even if you do love them. There is different types of loves.
Also if you say "I love them no-matter what they look like" you love that person for them and will love them when they are old and fat as well. This is normal and this is found in most sexuality. So its a mindset not sexuality.
However most people would probobly draw the line if that person decided to one day get a sex change. Since they are only attracted to that gender.
So as you described Demisexual sounds like a misclassifications and and at that point just adding names for the hell of it. If there is two lesbians and they truly love each other they will love each other when they are old and fat. This also goes for a man and a women and or man and a man.
but it doesn't have to do with gender/sexuality... just attraction to mind alone, then sex comes secondary, as in they would have sex with a person if they loved that person's mind well enough. Sorry I'm not good at explaining things..:S
