How long should a couple be together before they get married?

how long is an acceptable length of time from a couple beginning their relationship to getting engaged to be married/civil partners?

    At least 3 years. Quite a few studies have shown that on a biochemical level the average effect of 'love' diminishes after about a 3 year period.

    My husband and I were together five years before we got married. I'd say three years. That's plenty of time for the honeymoon stage to diminish and to see if you're compatible apart from sex. Should also live together for at least a year imo.

    I think a year would be good.
    I mean, if you're going to get married,
    you might want to make sure that you can enjoy spending such a long time with your partner.

    3 months - living alone together
