How is this racist?

Seriously, most asian people look the same to me, boy or girl. I'm white but most white people look the same to me as well, especially based on ethnicity.

I can usually tell the different asian ethnicities apart, but put a couple 20-something year old koreans together and 90% of the time they will look the same, or a couple of 20-something year old japanese, same deal.

But anyway, same can be said for, say, blonde women. Put 2 blond women together 90% of the time they look almost exactly the same to me even if Im white. And of course same thing goes for most black people as well.

IIN? I don't get how this is racist, most people seriously just look roughly the same to me, based on ethnicity. Even my own ethnicity of white people looks similar to me.

It's called "the cross race effect" and it's been commonly observed.

Basically, a person typically finds it easier to pick out distinct facial details, and tell people apart, when it's people of their own ethnicity (or other ethnicities they frequently see). When looking at people of other races though, that ability gets muddied and you find it harder to distinguish.

I used to think all Asians looked the same. Then I had a brief phase when I went crazy on Kpop. It eventually got easier for me to immediately recognise different singers. It's just about how exposed you are to different races. Get familiar with their features, it gets easier to immediately pick up on their individual looks.

I do still think caucasians (objectively) do have the widest range of phenotypes, between all our hair colours, eye colours and varying facial bone structure. No other race seems to have that variety. I also think caucasians have a lot more "developed" sexual dimorphism, clear physical distinctions between men and women, but that might be my bias as a white(-ish) person.

that is not racist in any level and people who call you that because of this are just stupid. now i dont think your inability to differentiate people are normal

That's not racist. It's just harder to distinguish between people of a race that you don't have a lot of contact with, the race you do have a lot of everyday contact with (obviously your own race) is a lot easier to distinguish.

Racism - noun - a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.

You in no way infer that your race is superior to the people you describe in your above post. Therefore you aren't being racist. What you are displaying is maybe an unintentional ignorance to the subtle differences that everyone has between one another, regardless of race.

These types of things are best kept to yourself as you're open to a lot of criticism, but that's why we're all anonymous on this site.

  • It's not racist, but I don't really agree with you. Most people have striking differences in appearance to me, with the exception of young children.

It's not racist. It's an observation. Many Asians look very similar. Anyone who says that's racist is an idiot.

This is not racist. In addition, you said that even white people appear similar to you, so your inability to differentiate people is not even correlated with race.

This sort of stuff is just naturally hard for some people. It's kind of hard for me. I can't differentiate people very well, no matter which race they are in. I will be able to recognize someone if we spend a lot of time together, but there's no way for me to remember someone'face with only a couple of days of contact.

It never fails. I can be driving and see a woman with black hair walking and from behind I'll know if she's Asian. lol
Something about the straight hair maybe?

Yeah people look similar. Depending on the region they come from there are a few phenotypes then you got ''sub-races'' which is why you notice the similarities in certain groups.

I don't think it's racist. Like you said, especially based on ethnicity. Simply the reason they look alike is because of their ethnicity.

Idk you might just not pay attention to detail because I have an artistic mind I can't really relate besides one or two times when I first met people but same goes if they both are short or something. It's slightly racist that you on automatic go to group people by race though.

You do know that the brain classify by prominent features right if I alwase were neon pink shirts you could probably identify me fast this is how the brain works in every animal on the planet saying it's racist in any way is just plain hard for me to get if I have never seen a nomecian then it's not alienist to notice that he has dastict differences from me that makes it closer to his kind then my kind it dose not mean I see myself as better then him it means I have not had the pleasure to know Manny nomeians

    • It's kind of impossible not to though. Yeah I don't really look at close details, so I just look at things like facial features, hair color/style, etc. I couldn't even explain how they look the same, a lot of the faces just look plain / androgynous to me.

Also, I have no idea how people can so easily tell a "passing" trans person's biological sex. Like I have seen pics to me the person looks completely like the sex they're dressed as and other people will be like nah that's a trans person because of such and such facial feature, but I just can't even see it.

Well I guess not being able to pay attention to detail has it's positives than.

It's perfectly normal, and a fact of life that liberal feminists try to distort by calling White people "racists". Take the Obama family for instance. If we shaved their heads, besides their height, it would be hard to describe what one looked like compared to the other. It would even be kind of funny trying :)

Otherwise, too many White people believe the propaganda the feminist/marxist establishment feeds them through education, and news/entertainment media.
