I think its equally important to hear it as to have it shown to you. It great when a person shows it, but theres just something about hearing it come out of the persons mouth, that just adds more proof and overall comfort. Thats basically what it comes down to, the comfort and peace of hearing your loved one say those words to you.
I think it is very, very important. It takes but a second to say, it can be said anywhere at any time (whispered or shouted), and it is such a nice thing to hear your very best friend say to you.
Especially after you've been with someone a long time, things can get a little boring and routine. But I personally, never tire of hearing my lovely lady say to me, "I love you". I love her, too.
I think saying it and showing it are equally important. I do everything I can to show my boyfriend I love him AND I say it about 100 times a day because I feel like I need to express it. I think those who are truly and deeply inlove will say it and show it every chance they have, because it comes so naturally.
