Yhee-roe (soft H... closer to yee-roe than hee-roe, but there's a tiny bit of H in it). The H is like the H in Ich Dien, a mild hissing sound.
Yes this is the proper way to pronounce it. But I pronounce it "jai row (as in gyroscope)" just to annoy people.
If there's one single tip I could give you in life, it would be:
Never annoy the people who prepare your food.
In American I order it, and unless they are Greek, they never understand me -_-
Better doing it that way than the other way around and mispronouncing it to Greek people, Shugs. Well, unless you like man-juice in your food. :P
