How do you pronounce 'gyro', the Greek sammich thingy?

  • Gear-oh. I didn't know it was wrong until a few months ago. I'd rather say Year-oh, but my family would just look at me weird and tell me to stop being correct.

  • Yhee-roe (soft H... closer to yee-roe than hee-roe, but there's a tiny bit of H in it). The H is like the H in Ich Dien, a mild hissing sound.

    • Yes this is the proper way to pronounce it. But I pronounce it "jai row (as in gyroscope)" just to annoy people.
