You're right that I set myself up for disappointment but I hate shopping and it's just how I do it. I've tried browsing without needing something and it doesn't work out too well usually.
People use thrift stores more like a free dumpster now rather than a place to give useful items that you don't want anymore. Now it's like mostly all crap that you couldn't sell for a penny at your yard sale but your trash bin is full so you have to do something with it.
Actually I think the general quality of most clothes has gone downhill. The fabric and stitch quality seems way worse so the stuff the thrift store gets is more torn up than in years past. Used to be you could spot the pilled shirts like a sore thumb and pass them up and still have plennty to choose from but now like 3/4 of the shirts are pilled. You used to be able to find clothes that didn't LOOK used even if they were lesser quality brands, it's definitely harder to find that now.
New clothes have gotten so cheap that it's hardly even worth it to shop thrift. It's nice if you can find vintage or high quality items at a good price (which is hard now too since most stores charge way more for 'boutique' items) but there's virtually no benefit to buying a used pair of $12.99 wal mart jeans for $5.00, especially when you have to dig and search for your size and inspect them closely for damage. It used to be worth it when even the most basic jeans cost around $30 a pair or more but it's just not the case anymore. You can buy brand new basic tees for $3-5 and sometimes the thrift store wants the same price or more for that stuff.
How do you get your music?
