How do i not think about videogames and laying off the games for good?

I really like videogames but now it is getting way too much out of hand, I see myself playing a lot and it had worsened my eyesight ( which is mostly my fault I cannot blame anyone for my mistakes. ), what is even worse is that I keep hallucinating stuff from videogames for e.g. I wake up hallucinating Pokemon ( as much as I really like that game I told myself to lay off that game for my own good ), I am really trying to lay off videogames but how? Do I replace it with something I like or something? I really need your help.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

You develop certain pathways in your brain if you routinely do something over time. Like eating before bed or having a drink after work. Whatever it is. You just have to retrain your brain. Maybe make a rule you only play for an hour on the weekends or whatever. Eventually, if you stick with it, you'll build those pathways and it will get easier to stop. It's why people get addicted to working out or alcohol. Things along those lines. Just going to have to be a stickler about it and you'll be fine.

  • Hallucinating isn't something you get from gaming, so get that checked out by a health professional.

There's a sub on Reddit called r/StopGaming. I have a friend I believe is addicted to video games and found the sub when searching about video game addiction. I read a couple of posts that describe things similar to your experiences, with people being unable to stop or keep it in moderation, people being unable to quit thinking about the game or to "shut off" their brain after playing (with the game still playing in their head as they were trying to sleep), and I believe even hallucinations. The goal of the people in the group is to break the video game addiction. Maybe it would be a good community for you.

I feel the same way. The amount of times I pick up my phone and automatically type in a site (this is one of them, lol) on "autopilot" is crazy. Before this, it was my laptop. I know I need to limit my time online and on the phone, and to spend more time experiencing real life. I definitely need to get back into working out as well, since I felt so much better when I did!

Get into drinking so you can use your time more productively.

I live in video game realities sometimes. NPCs follow me around in loops. I have thoughts about respawning to fix corruption.
It got worse when I stopped gaming. Seek mental health help.
