In another comment you wrote that you were kicked out the house at a young age. Is this a prevalent thing in the US? Not all cultures are like that, in fact I think most aren't.
And I don't quite agree with the last bit. Girls understand, hell they're probably in the same situation. You get girls that are well-off but still live with the parents, because as I said before, it's convenient and a lot of people do it.
