Recent events in Iraq with the decapitations and other deeds got a lot of us thinking.

My question today, children, is this: How do you defeat a monster without becoming one yourself? As we all know, Nietzsche spent quite some time on this question. Is it possible to eradicate forces like the IS, without sinking to their level?

How can the good annihilate the evil, when the process of eradicating other people - however evil they may be - seems so intrinsically inhumane itself? Is it possible at all?

    I've never understood this argument. Would you put a limit on how far you would go to stop an armed home invader who intends (actually told you that is his intent, by the way) to murder your family? "Oh, I'm only going to slap him in the face really, really hard, but if that doesn't stop him, then I guess I'll let him kill my family." Can we get real here?
    These murderous dogs, the members of IS, are not human beings; they are monsters. Does it matter at all how one eradicates monsters? Even most other Muslims disavow any support for these monsters; clerics all over the Muslim world have denounced them and categorically stated that their actions are not acceptable to any other Muslim, nor would they have been acceptable to Mohammad.
    There is no stigma in doing whatever one needs to do to put down these rabid dogs; it's not like these are people we are talking about here.
    How do we do it? The coalition slaughters anyone with a weapon raised against the coalition. The coalition slaughters anyone in the uniform of the IS fighters. The coalition slaughters anyone with their face covered (if you (men) are not doing anything wrong, then why must you hide your face?) The coalition slaughters anyone with explosives. No trial, no begging for a second chance, not even time for a prayer; just eradicate the disease.

    The difference to me is that we (US, Australia, UK, etc) will be responding to a threat & to inhumane acts being performed on seemingly innocent people. They are doing it to be cunts.

    It's like the difference between self defence & cold-blooded murder.
    Not really comparable IMO

    Plus we will (or should) never sink to their level as the only intended casualties will be offenders, not the innocent, & even they will be killed humanely, not slowly tortured & decapitated with a blunt knife...

    Obviously sometimes violence becomes necessary to prevent more violence, but when it becomes necessary it is important to have as little innocent casualties and destruction as possible while destroying the people causing the problem. This will always be an issue because the bad guys do not care if they have to take innocent people as hostage. The best scenario is for humanity to keep check on each other regardless of where they are and keep others from getting to that point as well as watching out for each other becoming victims.
