How can so much food be wasted

1/2 of all food grown or raised in the world never makes it to market.30℅ of food that makes it to market gets thrown away and not sold. Of the food that makes it to a household, about 15℅ never makes it to the table, through wastage. Of what's left, only 70 percent is actually eaten and the rest winds up in the garbage. About 30 percent of the world population is starving. Do the math and stop wasting food.

Buy little and often if you can. It is a little pricier but is fresher and keeps local, smaller stores open.

In first world countries, the poorest are the fattest. Death from obesity puts a terrible strain on the healthcare costs. You should include this in your global health model.

Thanks for the factoid. Big Agriculture is playing hardball. High fructose corn syrup is their fast pitch.

Nasty. Big Pharma is in on the take. Insulin profits are big. Diabetes is close to the most expensive way to die. Big Medical wants those waiting rooms full. Big Insurance likes it too. At least mass shootings save money. Homicides are tragic but cheap.

Why stop at food? The amount of waste in the world is absolutely disgusting. You should see the crap people throw out.

you said 2.1 billion are starving. well , we have 4 billion cell phones with cameras on them and a global internet. your challenge is to find a starving person with picture and name that exist in the last 25 years. i will give you six months of search time on the internet. people that died due to war used as a weapon dont count. also people that died of illness dont count. only famine counts. go.

    • Starving doesn't necessarily mean death, genius. It means health problems later in life. It means lower test scores due to a lack of complex carbohydrates. It means kids who rush home to get a half pack of ramen noodles. It means people resort to crime to feed themselves. And it means that mental illness, like you obviously have (due to your demented posts on her).

And by the way, THERE ARE NOT 4 BILLION CELLS ON EARTH, DUDE!4 BILLION CELLPHONES HAVE BEEN SOLD! I've had 9 or so since they came out.

Jun 5, 2013 - More than 20,000 children die of hunger daily as tonnes of food are dumped. Science companies are commemorating World Environment Day by addressing the challenges with innovative science-based products to minimise food wastage. sound familiar. asswipe? so find one you cant.

20.825% of food ends up being eaten, I just did the math. Only one fifth of food ends up digesting in someone's body. Produce, fruits and vegetables are even less than that due to faster spoilage. I heard about 50% of that gets thrown away at the store without being sold, and an even higher percentage of that doesn't get eaten at home and is thrown out. Probably only somewhere around 10% of fruits and vegetables end up being eaten.
    I don't like it either, it's such a waste.
