How can i stay safe from nearby fugitive?

I got a pop-up on my screen that said "police alert, fugitive in my area near me". I'm just wanting to know how to stay safe if there's a fugitive near my home. Is there much chance that the fugitive may try to come and break into my place? Or still be in area even closer next time I leave my place? How can I be sure to stay safe?

Is It Normal?

  • 90% chance they’re just a complete twat.

    Go back to sleep.

  • Lock your doors and maybe turn the lights in a room or two so anyone outside can tell the house isn't empty. The chances of a fugitive going to your home are pretty slim though, I wouldn't worry

    • Ok. It's still daytime though, about the lights. Im sure you get those police elert pop-ups on your phone too? But you're right, I'm sure that the police will have caught that person before this afternoon is even up. The fugitive was said to literally be around the corner from me, and there was nothing about a license plate this time which means they're on foot, that's what got me nervous

      • If it would help you feel safer to have company you could also invite someone over to your place or see if you could go to theirs

        • I'm not really nervous about this anymore, not even sure now if the pop-up was legit. The same site where I got the alert pop-up was now just popping up advertisements and such. Like I said, I was just nervous before because I thought there really was a fugitive near here, and I've seen too many movies about fugitives breaking into random houses that they happen to be near. And I've heard that it's really happened before (but not often). But I don't think anymore that this fugitive is going to come here

        • I guess I can go to my neighbor's downstairs, as soon as he gets home

    • This, plus leave a radio or TV on so if anyone does try to enter, it sounds like people talking, or at least someone watching TV/listening to the radio!

  • If there was a fugitive near my home I'd call the cops considering the fugitive is on the run.

    • The notice said the cops were already after him, that's how they know to alert everyone in the area's phones

  • The police got bored, they want people to call in about anything that seems suspicious. Kills time. Boring town.

    • Yeah, and to keep us aware so we're careful about going outside. I'm pretty sure they caught him by now, there have been no more alerts about him. Like I said in my last comment about it yesterday, I wasn't worried about it anymore after thinking about it a little more, that there are alot of houses in my area and that the chances of him randomly picking mine were not that good. I just wasn't sure at first because the alert said he was so close to where I am
