How badly does cheapness turn you off?

Not talking about being frugal or thrifty in general in your own private life, that's great IMO. But I think there's a time and place for that, a limit to who it should be discussed with and also times when money shouldn't be the main concern.

Things like tipping poorly or not at all, discussing money on a date, haggling or using a coupon on a date, talking about how much this or that cost, the cost of a gift, asking how much your things cost and pointing out how others could save money or how they are foolish with money, etc.

    It's shit like this that makes you wonder what the fuck is wrong with people? Money just shouldn't be discussed in general, it makes normal people quite uncomfortable.

    What's even worse is, when someone brags about how much money they have, and discusses it at length, yet acts so cheap. I went out with a guy once, yes ONCE, who almost immediately showed me his bank statement. It was 6 figures. Yet, he refused to tip the cocktail waitress for his drink because it was "just soda, no alcohol", and I had to tip her for my drink out of my own pocket even though he asked me out and was supposed to be paying. He had thousands in cash on his person at the time too, which he made sure I knew about. I shuddered. It had to be the worst night of my life!! I was so embarassed, for me and for him. He kept bothering the waitress with cheapo questions, like what drinks could he order that got free refills, and what sides can he substitute for free.....OMG, it was brutal. I wanted to just sink into my chair and disappear, I didn't want the waitress to associate his behavior with me. The guy even took the fucking plastic cocktial forks home!!

      he was probably thinking that if you'd want some of his cash (gold diggers ARE common) and maybe thinking that you'd spill the goods for a chance at the cash... sleaze balll

    I find it strange when people try to work out people's share and split things to the nearest half penny. They say it's about fairness but it strikes me more as meanness.

    I don't mind paying more than my share as long as everyone's happy. Why sour a whole evening for the sake of 10p?

    It's also a turn-off with friends too. Not just who your dating. In general, if you're out partying and having fun, nobody wants to hear that shit.

    it's ok for a guy to be thrifty, but if you are constantly talking about how little money you have, this is a turn off (especially if I don't complain about MY money!)

    It's not even like I am asking you to pay for my dinner or anything.. some guys just inherently complain about money ALL THE TIME even when they are not forced to support the women in their lives.

    if money means more to him than anything let him keep his money. maybe it wouldnt work . if money's tight and he is a nice person, its ok its just money

    I always find it weird when people freely announce their income or discuss the cost of things they value. I was raised to keep financle matters private. But as for buying "cheap" items...to each their own. Now if you are downright wasteful, that's a whole different value system.

      Right, it should be private. There's nothing wrong with being frugal, but there's a time and a place. It can really put a damper on a good time.
