Because that would just make the situation worse. Better to play off that I shot him self defence but not to kill. Looks way better in the courts if i look like i wasnt trying to kill him.
However if you shoot for nonlethal and confess to it it looks like your life wasn't in serious enough harm so firing that gun into them becomes illegal as well. The whole system is fucked. Best ti go with it was dark someone broke into my house I felt my life was in danger and defended myself. Short sweet and to the point
I gotta patch a hole in a wall, blood stains etc. Someone will hear the gunshots, it's just better to let the community in on the action. Less work ultimately, also the guy could have a getaway driver. So many variables to deal with. Better just to have a simple plan and stick to it.
Covering up a lawful self defense act is not lawful. Plus I'm lazy I dont want to dig a damn grave for the guy who broke into my house.
Well it's still a lot of work, you'd have paperwork to fill, questions to answer to the police, there's even a chance you may have to go to court to defend yourself.
Why gunshot and bloodstain? You don't need a gun to kill someone. Use your bare hands. No noise and no blood.
You're not a professional. Like at all. And which is more savage? Shooting someone, making noise and spilling blood everywhere or using a technical rear naked choke? Guns are for pussies who can't fight and can't defend themselves. You should only use a gun if you're outnumbered.

Why do you have to tell someone? Just get rid of the dead meat. No one needs to know.
