Height with or without shoes?

I know typically you are supposed to take your shoes off to measure, but sometimes the doctors or people at the DMV don't bother telling me to take my shoes off when I'm getting measured. Very rarely the doctor tells me to take my shoes off. (I normally wear sneakers, but it still adds 1.5inches to my height). To me it makes more sense to say my true measurement(barefoot). So I'm wondering, when you tell people your height..do you tell people your barefoot measurements or with shoes measurement?

With shoes 249
Barefoot 294
Both (depends on...) 101

    Let's put it this way:

Would it make sense if I said I weigh 120 kilos, but only when wearing a heavy backbag. The next day my weight is 100 kilos, since I'm carrying less stuff with me. Could you figure out my true weight from that?

So, of course I tell my true height (barefoot).

    • Those are my thoughts exactly. It makes more sense without shoes as does without a big backpack, because they are not a part of you anyways lol. I just see it as a common thing for people to count their shoes

Do you wear special shoes? 1.5 inches seems kind of thick. Are you special?

If you measure with your shoes on, then that's it. You will have to superglue them motherfuckers to your feet now.

  • My doctor always has me take off my shoes, and all my clothes. I don't understand why, but he says clothing affects the height measurement.

    Whatever.

Mine does that too. "Take of your shoes, all your clothes. Now bend over so I can get your height." Then comes the rape shower.

The doctor always used to scare the crap outta me. I hated taking off my clothes and wearing that goddamn hospital gown. I always carried around my rape whistle when I went to the doctor's.

I have my shoes on but I wear flats all the time sooo I don't think it really affects the measurement...never thought of it before. They never tell me to take them off

  • Without shoes, socks are okay though.

I guesstimate; never really bothered to measure myself properly.

My doctor always makes me take off my shoes. I don't think I would trust them much if they ignored this.

I agree, mine does too. It's pretty important. An inch or 2 can throw off things like BMI and even medication doses that go by hieght/weight by enough to make a big error.
