Heart rate

Is it normal that whenever i go to the doctor and they take my blood pressure my heart rate skyrockets? Im not afraid or anything and im perfectly healthy but when they put that cuff around my arm and pump it up i go from sitting comfortably to feeling like i just ran 5 miles.

  • What you describe is most likely to a condition referred to as White Coat Hypertension. It's when your BP is otherwise normal, but taken in a medical setting or even by a medical professional, there is a marked spike in blood pressure as well as heart rate. It's estimated that 25-30% of the population deals with this condition. Some more than others, obviously. My HR was 126 at last Dr.s appt. I've dealt with this shit since I was around 10 yrs old.

  • I have a defibulator in my chest to control my racing heart beat .if it goes over a set spead the difibulator detects it and in 10 seconds gives me a shock and makes the heart beat normal again.

  • It depends on the rate...you never gave it. If there was a problem the doctors would know since it was being monitored. Mine used to be 350+. I then had surgery and now it varies from 90 to 250. If you still feel uneasy then make an appointment with a cardiologist.

  • It's very normal and most people do the same thing. Most health professionals know it and are taught to try and trick you to get your heart rate and respirations but it's kinda hard to trick and get blood pressure with that thing on your arm :)
