In this situation where you guys have been friends for a long time ever since you were kids, I would recommend you to show a different side of yourself that he hasn't seen before. Surprise him by being super funny or super smart, but don't show off and don't be fake! Do something that he isn't expecting you to do, that's how you can keep him interested. Because if you've been friends for so long he might be thinking that he already knows everything about you - prove him wrong! And have fun with it - remember you have to show him that he means more than as a friend to you, but don't force it if he doesn't want that, of course. Don't be desperate because that could turn him off. Let your personality shine through and be the best version of you that you can possibly be! The best you can do is try and hope it works out.
