I agree with both comments above, but I also say "trust your gut." If something tells you the situation feels wrong, maybe it's wrong.
Perhaps if he had approached you differently in some way, maybe you wouldn't have reacted like you did. Maybe you saw a look in his eye, or just felt weirded out. I'm not blaming the guy, I'm just saying something set off an alarm in your head. Generally, it's smart to listen that alarm.
