I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say you guys were adolescents/teens when this was happening. If so, he probably didn't personally mean what he was saying. It feels good to emotionall and affectionately dump on someone when you're going through the hormonal throes of young-adult life, and taking it too seriously when you're on the recieving end and not realising that people can say/do these things for their own benefit can do a lot of harm.
He said he would always love me. That anytime he would be with me.
