Cheating in itself doesn't make you a bad person, it makes you a selfish person. You allowed short term self-interest to take precedence over compassion. You could have been compassionate and self-interested by dumping her and then screwing someone. At least then you would LOOK like you were trying to think of someone other than yourself.
Now wipe that self pity off your face and focus on being a better person on the inside. Put this behind you and DON'T get back with your ex girlfriend.
