  • I made two pumpkin pies yesterday and got my turkey in a brine last night and then the power went out. I spent all of today hoping it would turn on and ended up heating cans of soup over candles for dinner. I'll try for a thanksgiving meal tomorrow but we are cutting into one of the pies tonight.

  • I'm not American, and have a job to go to - so no. Thanksgiving means nothing to me, or anybody else in Europe.

Feel free to send some of your left-overs to me, though. I'll eat turkey any day :P

  • My oven is broken, so I wound up having to buy a pie instead. It's one of those delicious frozen chocolate pies, so it's not something I'll mourn over.
    :)

      • No! I will not leave until you surrender all the pineapples like you said you would! Ah, I can taste their juicy flesh already. So sweet and tangy. MMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

      • I'm broke so It'll be a while. I don't mind though. I got one rotisserie chicken from the supermarket and one from a pizza place, so the meat for Thanksgiving won't be a problem. I got it from two different places because of the long waits for chicken today. Everybody seems to be having chicken today. lol.

        • try getting a toaster oven from the goodwill. that is a good temporary substitution.

          • Already got one from Sears. It makes my sandwiches, pizzas, hot pockets, rolls, and bread sticks deliciously crispy.

            • well good! I suggested it bcuz i used to live in a basement apartment and that's what I used bcuz there was no oven and it seemed a pretty suitable substitute.

          • Yep. The food was delicious. I haven't stuffed myself like that in a long time. I'm quite happy right now, but I just know I'll lament my choice to eat all those large portions of food and drink in a few hours.
            :)
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving, reminiscent. Eat, drink, and dance like a happy orange leaf who's being carried away by the winds that blow from the northeast portion of the map.
            :)

  • I go OUT to eat for Thanksgiving, this started in my family about 10-12 years ago. a lot easier, less work and more time to spend with family.

    • I couldn't do that...I have to make all my traditional foods too so that wouldnt work out for me

      • well it was kind of weird that way when my family started doing that, but it got to be nice actually. Less work.

  • Oh, but we'd loved to have been invited over for the feast. That is the one huge drawback to our lifestyle; no turkey dinner with all the fixins.

    • Aw thats too bad.
You could buy already cooked turkey for sandwitches...do you fish? You could just make a nice meal out of some fish you caught as well.

      • Oh yeah, there are plenty of alternatives; grilled lobster and island vegetables in the Tobago Cays, fish of all types, etc. but after three years of island fare turkey n the fixins sure sounds good. It's not just about the meat, it's the whole shebang; stuffing, roast veges, cranberry sauce, yams, the pies, etc. Even if we went to a restaurant and had some of it, without the leftovers, it just isn't T-day, is it?
I know, boo fucking hoo for us. It sucks living in paradise while most folks are suffering through another snowy day. Boo fucking hoo for thegypsysailor and his lady and their tans.

        • Lol lobster is a good alternative. its all about being with family anyway... so as long as your all together.

But I get missing the turkey, stuffing, and pies...and leftover are a must.
have you ever thought about buying turkey peices like they sell extra legs and stuff you can throw on a grill...and you can cook a pie...some rolls stuff like that.

          • Sorry, they don't sell stuff like that anywhere but the USVI and Puerto Rico. The West Indians, French, British and Dutch don't do turkey day at all.
