Like other people on this post, you've made me realise something. Joy Division are from the same city as me and I don't think I've ever misheard their lyrics or any other band from my city. I know accent supposedly disappears when you are singing (unless you are The Proclaimers) but maybe it doesn't. Also, Oasis do sing with my accent to an extent (although they put it on to sound tough).
Have you ever misheard a song lyric?

The Joy Division song "Disorder".
"I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand, / Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man?"
But I swear it sounds like;
"I've been waiting for a guy to come and take me by the hand, / Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of another man?"

He didn't really have an accent when singing because it was such a low baritone. If he said either, it wouldn't sound any different.
