I did it a couple of times, but it's so freakin' difficult!
I did it by looking at my watch to see what time it was. When you're in a dream, you can't focus enough to tell what time it is, or the time will change. Then you start to realize you're dreaming, so that's when you start to turn around in circles (in your dream) and that calms you enough to prevent you from waking up. It really worked for me. It was awesome, but it didn't last very long.
When people say that they do it all of the time, I have a difficult time believing them, I think they are exaggerating.
