Have you ever faced this situation before?

Let's say you write a long story about one of your normal experiences on this site and you submit it a poll, but people only comment that it's too long for their attention span. Your story is not one block of text, but properly paragraphed and is in perfect English. Ever faced this before?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I think you generally know what a story is about after about a paragraph. At that point, you should decide whether you're going to give an opinion or not. If you are, I think you owe the OP the courtesy of reading it all.

I've never understood people who reply "Too long. Didn't read". That answer isn't helpful to anyone. What's the point? The only thing that can come out of it is to harass posters into writing shorter and shorter posts, continuing the trend of people not being able to concentrate for more than five seconds.

Mind you, some posts are just verbal diarrhoea. They skit around between entirely different points and end up asking a different question than the one they intended. Sadly, that too is a product of short attention spans and modern media force-feeding us smaller and smaller chunks to satisfy our need for immediacy and their need to make advertising revenue.

Outside of culture and the media, education, health, policing, and food are five areas that shouldn't be left purely to market forces.

  • If you have to write a book explaining a situation, it's not meant for this site.

    Get over yourself.

  • lol I would only be interested in the length of a post if I were the site owner. It would create a bandwidth issue.

  • Eh, every couple sentences go off on an incest or bestiality tangent. You'll have em hooked.

  • Think about who is the majority of your audience on this website: that should tell you a lot about their reading and comprehension levels.

  • Tell me about it, I've posted tons of great IINs and people who have not even bothered to read the post has said things like "Cool story bro" and "trololololol". They're a bunch of twats.
