Yes. I also give away really good clothes that have hardly been worn, and some impulse buys, that have never been worn. I have seen famous people in these shops too. UK has many charity shops and it is not frowned upon to be donating to charity in your own spare time, rather than flashing it for everyone to see and applaud. I have been using them for 30yrs and have got some great bargains and household goods. Sold some on Ebay years later and got big bucks in return. Why waste ?

I do not like to have secondhand clothes. I don't know why but I have always felt like it wasn't clean. I know better, but still they never felt like they were mine.
This was different with hand-me-downs from my brother. I could deal with that. I don't know why it bothers me. I have never been bothered by purchasing antiques, dishes etc. though. Just clothes.Comment Hidden ( show ) -

I have! In fact, when I was studying in Japan, I wanted to buy an Engrish T-shirt as a souvenir and spent forever hunting for one that I liked.
The one I got in the end came from a recycle shop and fits REALLY well, and has kept its shape too. The Engrish isn't that obvious unless you look closely, and it has a cute design that reminds me of the sort of thing that was popular in the late 90s/early 00s.
In my native England, I often use eBay and I like looking in charity shops. I've got some good books and music from various ones, and even found a pair of Miss Sixty jeans for £7!

I was in thrift stores several times a week when I was in high school (in the mid 90's). Most of the ones I went to aren't there anymore. I bought all sorts of crap. I still have some of the shirts I got, and some 60's-70's kitchen stuff. Like the olive green and mustard yellow ceramic canisters. Love that crap!

Oh, I LOVE vintage kitchen stuff!! I found a few amazing canister sets!! I recently noticed that one I have is exactly the same one that is in Marie and Frank Barone's (Everybody Loves Raymond) kitchen!! It's chrome, and it's a box with pull-out compartments for the different things.
I have a Betty Crocker cookbook that was my grandmother's, it's so amazing to look at becuase it has so much more than recipes. It talks about the 'woman's role' and all kinds of interesting things. It really makes you appreciate how things are today, and the modern conveniences we have in the kitchen!!
I also ended up with the first ever Radarange microwave oven cookbook. It was my great aunt's, she actually bought the microwave way back then when it first came out for home use, the book had the warranty card still in it from when she bought it. It's just so cool to look through it, the pictures are absolutely disgusting looking, and the microwave was such a piece of crap compared to what we have now.
My mom got her first microwave in the 80's and it came with a big hardcover cookbook too. It's weird to think people actually wanted to or did cook most things in a microwave. Well, I guess they tried back then and figured out how gross it was, and they finally stopped including cookbooks!! I just use the microwave to re-heat or to steam veggies really. I'd never try to make a meal in there!!
Anyway, sorry for rambling...I get overly excited about shit sometimes....

I have a few times, when I saw something I really liked in the window display, a dress once and even a good as new pair of shoes another time. I've also got some 1960s print scarves. I really hate paying over the odds for things and often frequent discount shops. Who cares if it's last season's.

I have before, but only just small things like boring shirts, and not very often even then, but I don't want to buy something new and expensive if I can get it cheaper somewhere else (not to mention the other benefits, such as supporting a charity and helping the environment).
