We only really have the Astrazeneca here right now, and it's been recommended people under 50 don't get it. I'm still open to getting it after I have a chance to talk to my doctor, if she thinks it would be best for me. I think the risks are pretty low.

The blood-clot risk is extremely low. The last figure I saw was a 1:100,000 chance for a young person who gets the AstraZeneca vaccine. Interestingly, out of 100,000 women on the contraceptive pill, the odds are that one of them will get some form of blood clot in any given week. My recollection is that a large proportion of the younger people who had blood clots which were linked to the AZ vaccine were also on the Pill; how they disentangled those two factors and attributed the clots to the vaccine I don't know. Maybe it was simply a worst-case assumption.

Perceived risk is a weird thing, but I'm sure you're aware of that. Something that doesn't get a lot of space in the media is how quite a few younger people who don't suffer anything dire in the acute phase of Covid have a wide range of weird, lingering issues that can go on for months.

For what it's worth, both I (mid-sixties) and my wife (mid-fifties) have had our first doses AZ vaccine. Flu vaccinations never bother us much, but we definitely knew we'd been hit with something this time. Nothing drastic for me, but generally achy and feeling crap. My wife had it worse, with the nasty fever-chills thing, and she said it felt like her bones and teeth were aching. It hit pretty fast, and she spent most of the day after the vaccine in bed dozing and feeling very sorry for herself. The day after that, she was much better, but low-energy and easily tired. She woke up the next morning feeling fine.

From what I've read, that's pretty typical. We're not exactly looking forward to the second dose, since our understanding is that that's the one that people really react to. Although it seems that if nothing really horrible happens after the first one, the worst that's likely after the second is feeling seriously shitty for a few days because the immune system has gone ballistic.

Yeah, that's my reasoning, too. The balance is, the blood clot thing with the vaccine does seem to have a higher mortality rate than a birth control pill blood clot...but as you say, it's very rare.

In Australia (unless new cases today) we've bad three cases of the blood clotting from the vaccine and one has led to death...whereas blood clots from covid...

The AZ-triggered clot thing can obviously be very serious, and citing statistics doesn't make it better if you happen to be one of tiny number of very unlucky people.

But medics are now aware of the possible side-effect, it isn't hard for lay people to find out the warning signs to look out for, and if a clot is rapidly diagnosed and treated, it's not inevitable that it will kill you.

Yup. I'm pretty set on taking it, only reason not to would be if my doctor gives me a reason not to. My grandmother gets hers on Thursday and I'm looking forward to being able to relax a bit a few weeks after that.

  • No, the vaccine is rushed, and i have the antibodies from the covid infection already.

Id rather get covid than the vaccine. Half my family had covid and everyone was fine said it was nothing. Not really worried about it. I never get a flu shot either. If I had diabetes, I was old, or obese I would get it. But since im not at risk and my family did fine with it im not worried about it. I need to get the antibodies test because im 80% sure I had it. My wife and son tested positive I had a sore throat. Probably had covid. Id rather get covid than the flu. The flu is worse on healthy ppl in my opinion.

I heard it causes stage 7 cancer even. It just starts at stage 4 and makes you a 4G antenna (coincidence?!?).

Yep. You just stand there and it happens automatically as if your human status never went away.

Didn't know cancer patients weren't human though.

I'm not getting it. Not for any other reason than sheer laziness. It probably works but I'm gonna let sheep go first. I'm at practically zero risk for dying from covid. I'm 20× more likely to die from a homicide.

but, you are likely to spread it to others if you get it - and likely to spread it before you even know you have it...

Yeah if you dont wanna get it. Get the vaccine. It's not my fault for someone to get sick if they dont get the vaccine.

And if someone's immunocompromised and can't get vaccinated?

          You're right. You're SUCH a nice person.

          I rate you a D-

Well dont be shopping at walmart. I dont go out of my way to get at risk people sick. That being said you cant pass blame to people like that. I already got covid, I'm fine. Someone who wants to go out in public takes the risk of being hit by a car. Catching covid from a person who didnt vaccinate is their problem to overcome, not mine. Dont scew morals to fit an authoritarian outcome.

              So nice.

Cos everyone who is at risk lives completely in isolation...and should never leave their room etc...

I care about personal liberties. It's not the goverments place to force vaccines on people, same for the mob wanting people to get vaccinated with a experimental vaccine.

What if I care about not getting blood clots? I care more about getting blood clots than getting covid that I've already gotten.

You are being the moral authoritarian here.

Not just blood clots but neurological diseases. Fuck that shit. Too much evidence suggests that it's dangerous. And as a hypochondriac with severe tomophobia, I'm not willing to take ANY risks with my health AT ALL. If it ain't broke, DON'T fix it.

You care about yourself and no one else. You don't give a flying fuck about anyone else's personal liberty.

Yeah cos no ones gotten blood clots from covid.

Also, you've said repeatedly you haven't been tested. Sooo...

I got the Moderna vaccine. My arm was sore for days after each dose. It kind of felt like the soreness one gets post workout but magnified. Other than that slight annoyance, I was just fine. XD

Got the Phizer. Arm was sore after the first one and I felt like crap the next day after the second one. Other than that no problems. A lot of people I know have gotten both shots now and haven't had any issues. Just mild flu like symptoms after the second shot for a few of them.
