Have any of you ever sold on ebay?

I'd appreciate any tips, or information about your online selling experience.

I'm interested in selling on eBay or Amazon. My house is full of various items.

Yeah, but only because I had some things of significant value. Otherwise, it's not worth it on the regular. I have thought about doing it when they have their ten fee free items shit. I also used Gumtree, which as far as I can gather is similar to Craigslist. Gotta be careful of loonies on there. I met a few, but was moving in a few weeks so wasn't overly concerned about having them in my home.

You'd probably be better off joining a free local facebook buy/swap/sell group. No fees.

  • I got lucky after Katrina and acquired a bunch of camera equipment and various banners from chicago sports events. STAY AWAY FROM CAMERAS!!!!! I got $10 for a brand new cannon t60 with various lenses and a nice case, including a pro zoom lenses. However I made a killing on the sports memorabilia. I sent the banner that adorned the stadium for the '94 world cup to a collector in russia for $6000 and he commented on what a great deal he got. I also got $600 for a collection of "Stryker" pins from the world cup. Soccer stuff seems to sell well. I got $20 from a.squishy football that drew brees threw to me from a Mardi grams float (signed).

I got $89 each for several banners from the back to back chicago Bulls championship banners from the 90's and I put a "buy it now" price on them. A shop owner in Cali bought them all, which leads me to think I could have gotten more.

I sold an AMG front bumper knock-off. Bought it for 300 bucks in my first student year, when I was still lacking in knowledge about car parts and where to get them. When I discovered it wouldn't fit, I sold it on ebay for 300 bucks.
I'm glad I covered my expenses.

I also sold a pair of old summer tires on ebay. They were almost bald, but a mate told me to put them up on sale on the regional ebay page (ebay Kleinanzeige for my town)
Funny enough a guy bought my bald Pirellis for 60 Euros. Had a good night out with my friends after that.

Over the last two months I’ve sold several things on Facebook’s Marketplace. It’s free, super fast and easy and I’ve sold everything I’ve put on it. I put a old truck tool box on there for $120 one morning and it was sold and gone before lunch.

Just really try to figure out what the cost would be VS profit.

Ebay fee is about 10%, paypal is less but I forget how much, plus try to figure out what shipping cost would be. If it is a heavy item that would possibly be shipped across the country, that might get pricey.

PLUS you have to be competitive in your pricing.

Also when you describe the item, make REAL sure to mention any flaws. It isn't like craigslist where people fuck each other over and it is "tough shit" for the buyer. Ebay doesn't tolerate crooks. I am not saying that you are a crook but some people might be.

  • I see; that's unfortunate. I'll probably only buy to resell if I get a really good deal on something.

Between eBay's fees and Paypal, I figure I'd lose about 12% from the item's cost, not including shipping.
