Hate people who don't teach their kids english in america

It really ticks me off when people don't teach their kids English as a primary language in America. I can't stand when I see kids who are born in the states but aren't taught English. Their parents only teach them their ethnic language. I mean there's nothing wrong with knowing your ethnic language but in america you should be taught English first and foremost

I think that when your at a younger age you should be taught whatever language your parents speak. When I was little I learned spanish first because it was my parents native language. But now that Im out of school my english is so much better than my spanish. I just find it better to learn your native language before english when your younger so that when your older you can speak both languages.

America is a huge place. In south America main languages are spanish/spanish-like languages, so why should they teach english? Oh, maybe you mean America = United States of America (by the way, don't you know you shouldn't say simply states ---there ara other states--- or United States, since Mexico is indeed Estados Unidos Mexicanos, so if you translate just the first two word, you have United States... but these can refer to Mexico as well!!!!)

I think it is a problem. Everybody should learn more than a language, and of course at least the official language of a nation. Parents might not kow english at all, but children are smarter in learning languages and they should automatically learn the language they use to communicate e.g. at school. If this does not happen, it means there are ghettos, separated "social bags" where people may live even without knowing the language spoken outside the bag. This could be an "american" social problem, rather than a guilt of the parents: it means someway it is possible to avoid integrations... like a "nation" inside the "real" nation.
I don't know how the problem can be resolved, but I am still pretty sure it is not parents' fault: again, I have to stress the fact that children, put in an social environment where the language X is spoken, learn that language even if their parents can't say a single word of it. INtegration can be made harder because of racism, nationalism and particularism

Be careful about your hatred, might turn yourself into a racist...unless you wish to be one

The reason is, the kid will have plenty of time to learn English outside the house and while forgetting their ethnic language...that's why they taught their kid to speak a different language at home...

Have you ever thought about the benefits of knowing more than one language? The world has become smaller since the internet, so open your eyes, don't just live within your block...

kids learn quicker than adults. thats why parents teach their children other languages at young ages, they know they'll learn it quicker now than later. besides, english can be learned very quickly in the states and what if you moved to china with your 2 month old kid? ur telling me you would mind your child learning another language and not knowing a word of english (your "ethnic" language)

This is true, but usually Americans expect people to understand them when they go to other countries.

If a person lives in New York City and only speaks only Polish, German, Italian, etc. no one would cares. Same with French in Louisiana and Japanese, Chinese, and Hawaiian in Hawaii. If a person lives in Arizona or Utah they might speak mostly Navajo. The problem is Spanish is not a very pretty language. Even in Spain it just sounds like people whining. So yeah, learn English or French just stop whining.

Yeah I agree with this. USA puts up with this nonsense and a lot of other countries dont. If you are in that country learn that countries language. If you first move and you are having issues learning it ok yes that is understandable. You should not be judged for things like that. However refusing to learn another countries language is rude. They should not have to accommodate to you. If they do that is very generous. If you are a tourist you are there for a short amount of time so of course you cant learn the entire language. However if you are going to live in that country for months, years or the rest of your life learn at least one of the official languages of that country. I say one since some countries have 2-3 official languages. An example Canada. Where half know french and the other half English.

It's irresponsible of the parents, since they're not adequately preparing their children for life in their native country. I agree to some extent.

I don't think that hating anyone is ever normal. Maybe these people are just wanting to make sure that their native language isn't taught. If they go to American schools they will be taught sooner or later..

  • I feel the same way , you live in america you need to know english and teach ur kid it, if not ur just messing up their futures already like take my aunt for example, shes from the dominican republic and she recently learned english to marry my uncle right? so they have a kid and as he grows up she spoke both spanish and english to him and now he cannot speak in full sentences and he is slow in school AND he still can't speak a word of spanish!! wtf? yeah so if I were to move to like germany for intance, I would learn German to be respectful. and lets keep in mind that in every other country english is taught at a young age in the school cirriculem which is fantastic. so alot of the places have people who speak english. lol sorry i got off topic..

I don't mind this cuz as the other two have already said. They will learn english in school. At home they can speak whatever they feel more convertible with. The people I hate the people that have not completely learned english yet or are vary bad at it and yet pick a job were they deal with tons of english speaking people every day. For example if you called say dell for technical support and you get some Spanish dude that you can't understand cuz he can barely speak english. It makes you want to yell at them. "Get a fucking job that you don't need to speak to people if you can't speak the fucking language asshole!"

\What I wonder is how did they get picked for that job when they can not speak the language. Would they hire a man as a Japanese doctor if he did not know Japanese? How do you get through an interview if you can not present yourself in front of an employer? Employers are very serious about this kind of thing. Even misspelling on your documents can result in them sending you to the discard pile.

I hate that too, seriously, when your living in a country whos primary language is English then you should learn English, and teach your children English. If I moved to Spain then I'd try to learn Spanish and teach my kids Spanish, it only makes sense, why move to a country where you can't talk to anyone? if you teach your kids your ethnic language then that's fine but also make sure they are fluent in English.
